Interactive project final

My primary audience is composed of people that have recently discovered the Japanese pop artist, Reol, and people who want to get into J-pop in general. This audience does not have much knowledge about J-pop or the popularity of J-pop. They love music in general and want to expand their knowledge in music genres, specifically jpop, through learning more about the history of artists, especially Reol. They want to know the origins of Japanese pop artists, in which many are similar to Reol. My audience is likely to be enthusiastically open to listening to foreign music, and probably interested in knowing more about Japanese pop culture. This timeline of Reol's career can help people understand the various changes a Japanese pop artist can go through and their growth, allowing them to dive deeper into an aspect of Japanese pop culture.

Each image used is of Reol and her albums’ cover artworks, which show her growth over time through the noticeable increasing professionalism throughout these images. By putting them on a timeline, the images are able to effectively portray this growth in the right, chronological order. A timeline can show the change, growth, and hardships a person goes through, and the images can supportingly showcase this visually. The description of each event in Reol's careers help elevate her achievements and rise as a singer and songwriter. Together with the images, the descriptions, and the timeline, Reol's development and success as an artist can be visualized in the most efficient and effective way.

In order to create this project, I retrieved various pictures of Reol and her album cover artworks that represented each event that was important in her career. The images were found on google and were uploaded to Flickr so that I could post them onto the timeline template found on Knightlab. To emphasize her bigger achievements that had more impact on her career, I chose to focus on these events, potentially not including some minor events in Reol’s career. Therefore, in each description, I tried to incorporate an achievement that best exhibits her growth and accomplishments. I alternated each background color from gray and white to allow the audience to see the distinct changes in events and help elevate the theme and aesthetic of Reol. Although it was hard to put down a clear end date of each event, each end date was carefully thought out to best represent the end and transitions between her major events, allowing the timeline to flow in an organized way.

After doing this project, I learned that each program or software has its own effective uses and ways to send a message to an audience. Although they may have the same topic or idea, each project portrays that message differently. Some programs are easier to use for a specific category or topic, while other programs are not very efficient or intuitive. Even so, every tool has its use and every idea can come to life with the right instruments.
